Notes:

Magdalena is born in the Riversdale district of the Cape Colony in 1929. After marrying Jacobus Frederik Booyens, likely in the Colesberg district, the couple moves to the Smithfield area of the Orange Free State. According to Magdalena's 1878 death notice, their first child is born there on 5 August 1849, but we cannot cannot find a record of a corresponding baptism in that parish. The couple does indeed baptise several subsequent children in the Dutch Reformed Church Parish of Smithfield up until 1864. Thereafter, the baptisms move to Bloemfontein. By 1869 the children are born in the Parys region of the Vredefort District, across the Vaal River from the Transvaal town of Potchefstroom. The family is clearly moving north.
