Notes: Bun is the eighth and youngest child of Matthys Johannes Booyens and Martha Johanna Delport. He grows up to be become a teacher, and an inspector of schools. Further study earns him a PhD in History. He eventually becomes an inseparable part of the University of Stellenbosch where he serves as assitant to the rector, and also editor of the University Magazine 'Matieland'. He becomes immensely poplar as lecturer, known for his quick wit and sense of humanity. This results in his lectures being overattended, often by individuals who are not taking the relevant courses. He also becomes the live-in head of the Eendrag male hostel at the university, where his popularity with the students again shows.

Bun eventually becomes something of a legend in his own lifetime, known as "The Little Man with the Great Spirit". Today he is seen as one of the Truly Great Men in Afrikaner culture.
He has several texts to his name in the areas of History, Culture and Rugby.
