We first find Petrus Johannes on the 1791 stock lists (Lyst van opgegewe Beestiaal Ao 1791) for the Graaff-Reinet Colonie [#1]. He has some 24 cattle and 300 sheep. Unfortunately, the list makes no effort to state his location within the Colonie.

Unlike his brothers, he does NOT appear on the ca. 1796 Graaf-Reinet Militia roll, but we can subsequently trace him in the Muster Rolls of Graaff-Reinet for many years. The Colonie's books become increasingly more specific and the territory is eventually spilt into Graaff-Reinet and Beaufort. It ultimately becomes clear that he is situated to the east of the present-day Prince Albert.

The 1796 Muster Roll lists all three brothers with their father, Barend d'Oude, but gives no useful information [#2] other than that he has 800 sheep. What is taken to be the 1797 Muster Roll similarly places all three men in the Graaff-Reinet Colonie, without specifiying location. It states he has 16 cattle and 200 sheep [#3]. This time the wives are given, Barend d'Oude listed with Elisabet Strydom and Petrus Johannes listed with Maria Magd^a Bredenbag. Brother Barend is unmarried.

The 1798 Muster Roll [#4] lists him separately from his brothers and father, but notes that he "lives with his father" (Woond bij zijn vader). He has a massive flock of 1514 sheep. The Muster Roll of 1800 reveals his father Barent to be living with him ("woond by Petr. Johs. Booÿens") [#5]. Barent d'Oude appears to have died there ca. 1801. For more than a decade we can follow Petrus' widowed mother in these muster rolls in listed proximity to Petrus--likely on his farm--consistently identified as "De Weduwe Barend Boijens".

We find Petrus Johannes on the 1812 Opgaaf of the Graaf-Reinet "Colonie" [#6]. He is living in the Zwarteberg District, which is the southern limit of the Graaff-Reinet "Colonie", around what is today Prince Albert, and somewhat to the east. His entry is immediately before that of his brother, Barend. He is listed as "Petrus Johannes Boijens B^dsZ". Removed from him by the entry of his brother and a single other entry, is his mother Elisabeth Catharina Strydom (now 89), listed as "De Weduwe Barend Boijens". One concludes they are all at the same place, of which the name appears to be Hagas. He is recorded as married to Maria Magdalena Breitenbach with no children. He has 17 "Hottentots" on the farm. He owns a horse & cart, 8 draught oxen, a wagon, 17 head of cattle, 18 sheep and 96 goats. He has 6300 vines in the ground, which is remarkable for that water-challenged part of the country.

By the time of the 1836 Graaff-Reinet Opgaaf, he is living in the Swartruggens and is listed as "Superannuated and poor" and therefore does not have to pay taxes [#7].
